It seems that a settlement in a class-action lawsuit involving Enterprise rental cars that lacked side air bags isn't going over well with buyers of the cars, the Associated Press reports.They will obtain a $100 voucher good toward Enterprise rental or car purchases under the settlement in the class-action lawsuit in St. Louis. The four law firms that brought the lawsuit, by contrast, end up much better winners, splitting a pot of $1.3 million.
The case concerned 2006 through 2008 models of Chevrolet Impalas. While people who bought the cars at Chevrolet dealers got them with air bags standard, Enterprise ordered them without the safety feature to keep about $200 a vehicle.
The AP says St. Louis-based Enterprise agreed to provide the vouchers to anyone who owned the vehicles as of March 2010.
Owners also will obtain yellow stickers warning that there are no side air bags in the vehicles.
One plaintiffs' attorney, Stuart Talley, called it "one of the most horrible settlements I've ever seen." He said the case was an instance of the "rubber stamp" nature of many class-action lawsuits.
"The attorneys get paid off a huge and class members get next to nothing," Talley said.
