Zoom in on superior transport services


Targets have been set for the year to develop urban public transport in the Klang Valley, giving commuters something to look onward to. The Government plans to increase the capacity of public transportation with the addition of more facilities.

200 new buses will be added, along with four new bus express¬way transfer corridors. Mean-while, 800 bus stops will be upgrade.RapidKL's Kelana Jaya LRT line will see 26 new four-car trains, probable to triple the system’s ability when fully deployed.

The Key Performance pointer for urban public transportation is to boost public transport usage and advance accessibility and connectivity. This means by the end of the year, 75% of the population will be living within 400m of public transport routes.

There are already many signs of progress:

  • The realignment of 45 RapidKL routes, improving reporting from November 2009.
  • Arrival intervals for KTM Komuter trains have been cut from 20 minutes to 15 minutes with the use of additional train sets last November at high traffic segment.
  • Four new four-car trains set were added on the Kelana Jaya LRT line last December.
  • The launching of the RM150 RapidKL included travel passes allow unlimited travel on all Prasa-rana services, Rapid KL buses, Kelana Jaya LRT, Ampang LRT and Mono¬rail.
