New Bill Introduced For Teen Drivers

Pennsylvania lawmakers have re-introduced a proposition in the state House that would ban hand-held cell phone use for all drivers and impose rigid rules for teen drivers.

State Rep. Josh Shapiro, D-153, said on Monday “I’m going to be fighting very, very hard in my time in the House to get this done,” in an interview at the Montgomery County Courthouse.

He was at the courthouse for a press conference discussing his run for county commissioner this year.

The latest proposal, House Bill 67, which set passenger and cell phone restrictions for teen drivers, and House Bill 2070, which set cell phone restrictions for adults.

In the latest perturb driving proposal, drivers fewer than 18 would not be permitted to use a hand-held or hands-free cell phone and would be prohibited from text messaging.

But for Adult drivers the latest proposal, barred to using hand-held devices and text messaging but could use a cell phone if a hands-free device is used.

Irreverence of the proposed law would be considered a primary offense, meaning police could stop a person for that violation alone

The bill will be bringing up to the House Transportation Committee for review. Before it is considered for a vote before the full House, the bill could be subject to hearings in the committee.

Overall 6.5 of 15 basic safe driving laws and only 3.5 of the 7 laws it proposes for safe teen driving.

Toyota conveys its 20 Millionth Vehicle in Europe

Toyota is commemorating the delivery of its 20 millionth vehicle in Europe, a landmark reached now 10 years after recording its 10 millionth sale here.

Piaggio demonstrates small car concept for India

Bajaj announced its tactics to develop a small city car with Renault and Nissan, the other two and three-wheeled manufacturers have been watching this space with interest. At the EICMA show late last week, they illustrated a three-seat small car concept for markets such as India, Vietnam and South East Asia. Called the NT3, the concept measures not more than 2.4 metres long, building it shorter than even the 2.64 metre long Mahindra (Maini) Reva.

Using a seating layout very related to the McLaren F1 supercar, the driver and the steering wheel sit in the centre with the passengers on either side, somewhat offset to the rear.

The NT3 uses a spaceframe structure with a crash box to provide it rigidity and stay the occupants in a safety cocoon. Using a stretchy platform that can be used for diverse transport applications, the NT3 is also designed to make use of a hybrid powertrain.

New Ford C-Max car model

Volvo CEO alleges They Can Be a Top Brand

Volvo can use its new-found independence to react rapidly to market demands and enter "the top league of premium brands", according to the firm's new CEO.

Ex-VW USA chief Stefan Jacoby began his role at the Swedish manufacturer on Monday, just under three weeks after the firm was taken over by Chinese firm Geely.

He declined to create sales projections for the troubled brand during his first official press conference, joking that he would need "at least another 48 hours" to come up with specific figures. British Engineers Develop Feces-Powered Car

The Bio-Bug has been renewed by UK engineers to run on methane gas.

Excrement flushed down the loos (toilets) of just 70 homes is sufficient to drive it 10,000 miles - a year's average motoring.

The two-litre VW Beetle convertible is said to be the first gas-powered car that does not suffer reduced recital.

Mohammed Saddiq of Bristol-based sustainable energy firm GENeco, which developed the prototype, says it will pave the method for a green motoring revolution.

He boasts that it drives similar to a conventional car and will "blow away" electric models.

Hyundai declares Its Cars Will Average 50 M.P.G. by 2025

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Hyundai said on Wednesday that its whole product lineup in the United States would average at least 50 miles per gallon by 2025 — somehow. That would be development of about 60 percent from the ratings of the cars and trucks Hyundai sells today.

Drivers to acquire £5,000 electric car subsidy

Drivers will get up to £5,000 from the Government if they buy an electric car however the number of grants has been sharply cut from earlier plans.

The subsidy was announced by the Labour government in 2009 but placed on hold by the Coalition awaiting the autumn spending review.

From January, any motorist buying a new generation electric car, or ultra-low carbon hybrid, will get 25 per cent off, up to a maximum £5,000.

However, the number of grants has been slashed from a lowest amount of 46,000 to as few as 8,600.

The scheme has been partly ring-fenced from cuts following pressure from car makers and Britain’s green energy industry.

The grants will be available now in time for the UK launch of the Nissan Leaf, the first major rival to the globally victorious Toyota Prius.

A full grant would engrave the cost of a new Leaf from £28,350 to £23,350, according to a report in The Sun. Once charged, the cars run for about 70 miles, costing now 3p a mile.

Nissan’s Sunderland factory will assemble future Leafs, meaning Britain will from 2013 be the company’s third-biggest global electric car base.

Nissan itself received grant from the Government to build the Leaf in Sunderland, where the workforce of 4,100 built 338,000 Qashqai, Note and Micra models in 2008.

Honda to commence Plug-In Hybrid Car in 2013, a Year after Toyota

According to a Reuters report, the company will launch both a plug-in hybrid and a fully electric car for the 2013 model year. The electric car will be presented in the U.S. market first, to compete against such upcoming entries as the 2011 Nissan Leaf.

By 2013, the company plans to have no less than five hybrids for sale. It currently offers the 2010 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan and the Insight dedicated hybrid hatchback. Its 2011 CR-Z hybrid two-seat sports car arrives this summer.

The fourth model is estimated to be a hybrid version of the Fit subcompact, but no facts have come to light yet on the fifth and final hybrid.

Honda is also considering manufacturing the Insight in one of its U.S. plants, most expected to reduce costs so it can lower the price below its current $20,400 level.

It may build two other hybrids in the U.S. too, one of them most probably the Civic Hybrid, since Civics are already built in North America.

Honda's proposed plug-in would struggle against a plug-in model of the Toyota Prius hybrid. That vehicle, presently known by the cumbersome name of 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, will hit dealers in very early 2012. Honda's plug-in would trail it by approximately a year.

BMW begins production of new 5-Series in India

German luxury car maker BMW now started rolling out new 5-Series sedans from its Chennai facility in India at a price between Rs 38.9 lakh and Rs 58 lakh (ex-showroom).

The company had revealed the new 5-Series sedans with petrol and diesel options in April.

"The BMW 5 Series is the core product in our model range and has considerably contributed to the image and victory of BMW in India. We are sure that the new BMW 5 Series produced in Chennai will further boost our momentum in the Indian luxury car segment," BMW Plant Managing Director Juergen Eder said in a statement.

The company will begin the deliveries of the cars by end of this month, the statement added.

Nissan’s modern Hybrid Doubles Mileage, Part of Broad Green Strategy

The phrase “Zero Emission” is Nissan’s clarion call for a new era of electric cars, the company’s long-term plan for sustainable mobility. But Nissan today proclaimed a full range of mid-term fuel-saving technologies; including hybrids, clean diesels, stop-start systems, and continuously variable transmissions. In today’s press release, the company used the slogan “Pure Drive” to portray its “comprehensive suite of automotive technologies.”

The announcement mirrors the generally trend in the auto industry: to lead the march to better efficiency and reduced emissions with marquee electric-drive vehicles—like the all-electric LEAF for Nissan or the Chevy Volt for General Motors—while rolling out a wide range of efficient gas and diesel technologies for at least the next decade or two.

Nissan’s global introductions in the next year will comprise a hybrid gas-electric version of the luxury Fuga—marketed in the United States as the Infiniti M35 Hybrid—which the company says could nearly double the mileage of its conventional counterpart. “We expect fuel efficiency to recover by 60 to 90 percent,” Koichi Hayasaki, chief engineer of Nissan’s hybrid system, said at a meeting briefing. Pricing has not been announced, but the M35 Hybrid is like to come close to, or exceed, $60,000.

Nissan will also begin the lightweight three-cylinder March microcar with stop-start—capable of about 60 miles per gallon—including a clean diesel version of the X-Trail crossover SUV.

Most recent Electric Car Will Be a BMW, from the Battery Up

BMW has revealed plans for an environmental sub-brand, which will be commenced in 2013 on the front of a brand-new two-plus-two-seat, lithium-ion battery car.

The latest Megacity Vehicle will have a 134bhp, all-electric driveline with a single-speed electric motor revving up to 12,000rpm. It will also feature an aluminium chassis holding the wheels, suspension, battery and electric motor, and a separately-formed carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic passenger cell.

The latest brand and car is born out of BMW's "Project i" research scheme launched in 2007, which has inspected the consumer feedback from the 2008 electric MINI E and the 2009 Active E vehicles. Feedback shows that as usage patterns for the MINI E were not considerably different from that of a normal car, the most effective area of improvement would to be its 93-mile range.

To that end, BMW is running with partner SB LiMotive on added energy-dense batteries and with SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers on lightweight body materials. The company has not ruled out by a small 40bhp petrol engine as a range extender, in the manner of the petrol engine fitted to the approaching Chevrolet Volt/Vauxhall Ampera hatchback. It has also admitted that there will be bigger versions of the Megacity Vehicle.

The Megacity project is designed to give environmental transport for the growing number of urban conurbations with 10 million-plus populations, of which there were 83 in 1950 and 468 in 2007.

GM To begin 70 New or Refreshed Models Worldwide by 2014

GM says it will initiate 70 new and refreshed models around the globe in the next four years. The Chevrolet brand will boast 13 of those models worldwide. Eighty percent of all GM vehicles will be based on worldwide platforms by 2014.

DETROIT — Look for a slew of new or reorganized models in the coming years and less reliance on trucks, General Motors said yesterday in a marathon gathering with the bank and investment-community analysts. GM hopes to convince Wall Street that it is prepared to have another go at being a openly held operation — rather than the "Government Motors" of today that is 60 percent owned by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

GM spoke about future product largely in relation to how the new metal will increase the company's bottom line, but was short on specifics, saying primarily that GM plans to launch 70 new or refreshed models around the globe by 2014. And perhaps unfortunately for American shoppers, a lot of those will be in markets outside the U.S., where GM projects most of its expansion in the next four years.

In the U.S., though, expect GM to dedicate less to trucks and put on a major push to construct midcycle refreshes (the term "face-lift" is falling out of fashion) more "impactful," according to product-development boss Tom Stephens.

Honda to manufacture the cheapest hybrid car on the market

The innovative hybrid car from Honda Motor Co. will be priced one fifth less than the cheapest hybrid in Japan, according to the Nikkei business daily.

With a price tag of around 1.5 million yen ($16,570), this latest car will be the cheapest hybrid in Japan when it goes on sale this autumn. This move is observed by many to make hybrids to be low profit margin models for carmakers. Honda’s new hybrid car will be priced about 400,000 yen lesser than the Insight, another hybrid car that Honda has in its lineup. The new hybrid will cost 200,000 yen greater than Honda’s gasoline-powered Fit compact car.

Yoshihiko Tabei, an analyst at Kazaka Securities, said that the lower prices benefit consumers but are not excellent for shareholders. He explained that since the price is lower than what the market had estimated, this could effect to a price war with Toyota Motor Corp., placing both carmakers at a disadvantage when compared with those who only concentrate on gasoline-powered models that have higher margins.

He revealed that Toyota has only started enjoying profits on the Prius and Honda is “barely making profits” on the Insight. Honda’s fresh hybrid car will be based on the Fit and will have core components that are shared with the Insight.

As a result, Honda’s development costs are abridged. The Nikkei report also revealed that this new car can go 30 kilometers on a liter of gasoline, compared with the Fit’s 24 kilometers per liter.
