Toyota to disclose electric RAV4

Toyota is to expose an innovative electric version of its RAV4 model at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week.

Japanese car maker will obtain the wraps off the RAV4 EV concept for the first time in the US, which it tactics to retail in the country by 2012. Using a powertrain developed by Tesla Motors, the RAV4 EV preserves the structure and functionality of the current non-electric RAV4 model.

Issuing just a teaser shot ahead of the grand unveiling (see above), Toyota’s reveal of the new electric model at the show demonstrates the car maker’s obligation to developing additional hybrid models and initiating electric car models to assist decrease the use of fossil fuels and cut CO2 emissions.

Toyota has previously retailed around 1,900 of the first generation RAV4 EV to field trials around the world. The first generation model sold between 1996 and 2003 was the first vehicle in the world to be motorized by a nickel-metal hydride battery.

Now reaching the point where it is equipped for full market production, Toyota will proclaim the full specifications of the new RAV4 EV Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17 when it opens to the world’s motoring press.
