Nissan Leaf triumphs Car of the Year

The world's first mass formed battery electric car wins the premier European award.

Nissan's battery electric Leaf has succeeded the European Car of the Year award by a clear margin of nine points.

The £23,990 five-door family tailgate goes on sale in March in the UK and will be the first-ever mass-produced pure electric vehicle on sale to the public.

The Leaf won 257 votes from the 58 adjudicators across 23 European countries. Alfa Romeo's Giulietta was in second place with 248 points, Vauxhall's Meriva in third place with 244 points and Ford's C-Max fifth place with 224.
